Silent Running

Our posts title comes to us
courtesy of the Mike & the Mechanics
song playing at the base area today as
G. Tewks and I wrapped up our quick
afternoon tour of the newly opened
sections near Lenawee at Arapahoe Basin.
Rapidly passing clouds reveal occasional blasts of sun.
Ski patrol tracks on West Wall over yonder.
Ol' Gene Tewks meandering...
...Down to this warning,
"Take er' easy there dude."
Finally, something different, bumpy, cruddy,
not groomed, enjoyed this.
...Number of visits this season.
Gonna try to make it back for at least
uno mas. X-mas hordes will soon invade
through New Years, keeping me away.
If we don't make it back next week,
ski ya next decade.

Going Through the Motions

I had to pick up the skis
that I dropped off nearly two weeks ago
for a tune. A Basin had reported 7.5"
over the last 72hrs. That .5'' really
makes a difference too. Today was one
of those riding for the sake of it days.
Mostly flat and windy, cold as well.
Ol' Gene Tewks and B.o.B., all business
The snow wasn't to bad, it's just getting REAL
deja vu like out there as nothing new is opening up.
I wanna ski some bumps n stuff.
The ski shop at the base did an awesome
edge and wax for just $10, It made a big diff.
Come back for more later as we hope
conditions will improve by years end.

Safety First at A-Basin!

The Shust and I came up to
The Basin on this Monday, to
check out the fancy new safety
measures now in place on "Exhibition
Lift", safety bar freshness...
Today is the last day o' November.
One month left in this dirty decade
...unbelievable.

No holds barred, but this bar's held...I said.
white winding way.
Andrew and Crisp rolled up after
a few runs, joined us fer some more.
Sunburst Sillouhette "68".
Ski Patrols' been packing the steeps
gotta get mo' gotta get mo sno!
Come back soon,
Hasta la vista...gravy.

White Lines.

No illicit drug reference here,
just lots of lines in the freshly fallen
11" of snow accumulation.The past 3 days
here at Arapahoe Basin have been bountiful,
praise Ullr.
Zig-Zagged
Crosshatched.
Intertwined.
Just absolutely crazy-assed "S's"
DJ Crisp came along to lay down some tracks.
Dukie and the Disc.
Nice all week is the forecast,
so another visit this week is
highly likely.

Rocky Road.

It's still early season conditions
here at A-Basin, but as T-giving looms,
worry sets in...where's the snow?
Well forecasters say it's coming in
tonight through the weekend.
I sure hope it brings much fluffy stuff,
as the mountain looks a bit like
Rocky Road ice cream, a bit
chocolaty and chunky for skiing.
More Marshmallow!
From atop Norway chair.
this run needs to "ripen"
"The Beach"...still dirt, rocks, and slush.
The guns are ready, gotta be cold enough though.
B.O.B. say's...game on.
mmmm... tire slushy.
the day the music died???

Still only 3 regular runs open,
beautiful day to be out today.
Just waiting for more snow,
which = more runs open,
= more visits = more posts.
C'mon back good buddies.

18 & 4.0: The Christening

Welcome Back!
The Afternoon Ski Club's 4th
season got underway today,
this the 14th day of October
in the year of our lord 2009.
This may be my earliest start
yet,... season 18 for me.
Hooray, Happy, Joy!
Off to get our season ski passes. This season
at A-Basin w/ some Breck/Keystone days too.
"More cowbell!"
Best pass picture yet...
The lone "Exhibition Lift" accessing a
single run, and a lil' terrain park
AAAAYYY!!! Captain Vagabond/Mean Gene
gives this official thumbs up to begin the year.
Slightly thin on the coverage.

Our visits may be limited until the amount
of available terrain expands a bit. But I encourage
all to come back and visit occasionally to see
what we've been up to.

The Bulgarian Connection

Well , we're not done yet I guess,
and thankfully so because an awesome
day was had at A-Basin this cloudless and
warm afternoon thanks to the K Man.
The K man could'nt make it however
due to a bout with the brown bottle flu.
Ethan aka "Swank" delivered the medallion that
gave me free ski powers here at the Basin.
We were joined by Ina who originates from Bulgaria
but is American too. Sweet.
Swank, Ina, n Me.
Mash Tater Mounds...Got Gravy?
Swank on "The Nose"
Soupy Pali.
Whooped remains after a run on Pali.

I'm not sure we're done
so won'tcha please come on back again.
Thanks,
