Powdered Lightning

Last day 'fore Christmas break, it's
crowdin' up out there, but Afternooners
such as ourselves always seem to find a spot
in the lot. Cold and snow drive the earlybirds
away by noon, but that doesn't stop the snow
from falling, and it kept coming, topping off
the 8" of powder reported overnight.
It was cold but very nice.
Temp in the lot at the bottom (even colder up top)
Holy narrow and steep
Last run to the lot...
right to the car, the lone dark dirtwagon, center frame.
Have a super holiday.

Falling Down.

"Why do we fall down Master Bruce?...
...So we learn how to get back up."
- Alfred the Butler
Having said that, you'd think that after
being down 5 times today, The Tewker
would be some kind of gettin' up fool.
After a nearly 3 week hiatus, Mean Gene
rejoined the ranks of the A.S.C. for
a midday ski trip to Loveland.
It was super cold and windy up top
as a storm is approaching from the west.
So we went and explored some new trees.
It t'was sweeet.
Look a snowbird...
Aahhaa, new terrain, gladed chutes.
Going in, Gene first, cliffs and danger on your right.
Lotsa fresh snow and good coverage,
especially for this time of year, excellent.
The run deposited us at the I-70 offramp
on the north-sieed, just up from the tunnel.
Gene filmed in "shittie-vision."

Improvements in video quality to come,
sometime. "Action Cam" has been temporarily
suspended until adjustments are made.
The storm that I mentioned earlier could
bring over a foot of fresh, so a return is
planned for Tuesday. After that the crowds
may become to overwhelming for a couple
of weeks, so we gots to get our ski on, now.

22 @ 2:22

It was 22 degrees at 2:22 pm when I rolled
into the lot at Loveland for some extreme
late afternoon runs. I had my doubts about what
awaited me when I got there, but I had to
get out of my house as I'm starting to get
my Christmas"shine"(as in The Shining).
Was I ever stoked to find 4-6" of fresh powder
and few other riders at this point in the day.
It was well worth the trip. Hooky Day pt.2
is on January 12th $10 lift passes!

I know, right.
Ol' Glory proudly displayed atop Lift 1
Wow 2 diamonds, must be very special.
Going down?
All to myself, plenty of fresh.
I took the line right next to the trees...sweet.

My self imposed Christmas break
kicks in next week. We'll try to get out
a time or two more 'fore then, c'mon back.

Hooky Day

Hooky Day was a good day as what were
forecasted to be overcast skies burned away
to reveal blue skies. It was stil a bit cold
but a great day nonetheless as we toured
around with some Loveland virgins.

Into the Great White Open.

B.O.B. is back in the A.S.C. pack!
We had plenty of new lifts and terrain
to check out today. Nearly 70% of the area
is now open, so we checked some
schtuff out.

B.O.B. gazes out over the Continental Divide
and ponders man's existence, or somethin'

Sketchy carnage laden bobsled run to
the tunnel "at" the tunnel, to the base.

The poor souls behind us here were
experiencing some difficulty getting
through this bulletproof, rocky crap run.
mucho blanco.
Avoid the light... stay out of the light...
This tunnel actually goes under the interstate,
back to the base area, "please remove skis."
heh heh.
Interstate 70 enters Eisenhower Tunnel,
then under the ski area.
Blood on the snow.

My big white face on this big white face.

Thursday is "Hooky Day" at Loveland
so hopefully we'll a crew together.
It's snowing again .......

6 More...at least.

Wow, It keeps coming,
more runs open every day,
bigger snowpiles in the parking
lot, tell tale signs of a promising
season. I went solo today for
a few suprisingly awesome runs.
Not but a few pictures though.
I got some more "action cam"
material to check later, no time
to check and post but I might
ad stuff later.
For now...
Afternoon squalls n' sun mix.

Thanks for lookin'.

63" Total @ Lift 1 Top! (unofficial)

That's right, since the beginning
of last weekend over 5 FEET of
new snow at Loveland by this Monday
afternoon, that was the claimed total
up top. What a way to kick start the season.
I was really starting to get bored with
the limited selection of blues and greens.
Today me and G. Tewkington(video provider)
were thrust upon big steep bumps and
some narrow alleys and other varied terrain
that only a black diamond designation
can provide, it was awesome!

Much whiter than just a week ago.
Mucho snow.
Excellent alleyway.

That blur is Mean Gene. His camera too.
I thought it was an auto focus...not.

Lil' slow...lil' sloppy but I got down it unscathed.
(video by Gene)

It seems like a lot more terrain
could be opening soon thanks to
mother natures little "gift" this weekend.
More excitement to come.
